Understanding Pots (Funding Rounds): Phases and Lifecycle
2025-09-22 · 4 min read

A pot is a funding round where patrons fund the matching pool and individual contributors get their donations matched. Anyone can deploy a pot (subject to whitelist); you set a Chef (round manager) and admins. See Pot contract at docs.potlock.org.
Phases of a pot
- Pre-Kitchen: Before deployment; soft commits, planning.
- Application period: Projects apply; Chef filters; patrons can donate to matching pool.
- Applicants finalized: No new applications; patrons can still add to pool.
- Matched-donations: Verified humans donate; matching calculated at end; front end shows estimates.
- Payouts + cooldown: Off-chain QF calculation; chef/owner initiates; cooldown for challenges.
- Compliance (soon): KYC token for payouts; non-compliant funds to remaining-funds address.
- Closed: All payouts done.
